Speaker 1:

Hi, this is Gretchen from come to yourself.com with our series facts, not fiction, featuring a discussion about Paris psychology with Lloyd our back enjoy. So on some of these ghost Hunter shows just, just to , uh, use it for context. Sometimes you'll see people they'll bring in somebody who they claim as a psychic or an empath or something like that. Um, does that happen in real life are a lot of the researchers, people who have some kind of impact thicker, intuitive abilities,

Speaker 2:

The researchers themselves typically not. I mean, like I pick stuff up, but I would never call myself a psychic except when I'm performing mentalism on stage. Um , but I work with psychics. I've worked with psychics and mediums since I got it since shortly after I actually really, since I started working my first job in the field in 1982 , um, I w I was fortunate to work in a research organization in New York, and they were doing research with a phenomenal psychic named Alex Tanis who also taught Paris psychology, actually courses at the university of Southern Southern Maine. And I spent a lot of time with Alex and with Dr. Carla SOSUS , who was the research director, both. And the two of them did research in the lab mainly on Alex's ability to apparently go out of his body. Um, and then OSIS and his assistant, Donald McCormick and Tanis would go on investigations as well , apparitions and hauntings and such and Poltergeist. And Alex really laid it out. And the two of them worked really well together. They were a good model for me of how a Paris psychologist and a psychic can really work together. And Alex really laid some things out that were, that were absolutely not contradictory to what we've seen in the history of Paris psychology and what people have found. I mean, he was really aware of the literature, aware of how to explain things he was aware when he would be dealing with it at a ghost or an apparition versus this kind of imprint in the that's there. Um, so there's a model there. And then when we started , uh, when I went back to JFK university and on faculty and we started, we were doing investigations, we had a faculty member who is a psychologist, but also an intuitive, a psychic. She was both. Um, actually we had , uh , we had two peop such people on the faculty, one of whom mainly , um, these days she's a fairly well-known psychologist in Calgary in Canada, and she doesn't lecture or teach on this, but she has a practice , um, where she occasionally, she certainly uses her ability to connect with her clients and to help them out. Uh, and I've worked with a lot of really great psychics. I learned because of my background in magic that came out of my graduate studies. I learned how to assess somebody , how to figure out if they're going to be used, if they can provide useful information and investigations. And then since that time, I've actually written a paper, which I'm about to put up on, I wrote this years ago, but I'm finally doing a new version. I'm putting it up on academia.edu. Um, on the other kinds of, besides how useful that psychic is, are , are accurate. Do you want to work with them in an investigation? What else do you need to know about the per the person? Because there's all these people who call themselves psychics and mediums, many of whom who may have real ability, but everything needs to be about them. They make wild claims, you know , uh , I get into not arguments, but I really start interrogating psychics who tell me that they're 98% accurate. I want to know how they calculate that. And some of them are just are doing that because that's what they see other psychics doing. And some of them are doing it because they're just trying to bolster their, their abilities and that's okay . Yeah. Awesome. False advertising.
